- UITM students win top awards at Piala Seri Endon 2013
Two students from the Fashion Department, Faculty of Art and Design emerged as the first and second prize winner in the grand finale of Piala Seri Endon Batik Design Competition 2013.
Mohd Hamidi bin Ahmad Jamili, a final year UiTM student, together with the team, Nik Intan Zaharah Nik A Rashid and Lailatul Akma Jaafar of ‘Alana Ilham’ won the judges over with a theme of “Khatrageous”, a combination of the word 'khat' and 'outrageous' for their design.
The group were one of 12 finalists in the fashion category who showcased their designs before the winners of all categories were announced at the event.
Their collection was inspired from a duit raya packet design pattern of ‘Khat’ writing, of Islamic calligraphy.
A creation of pop art design with a strong black and white base blended into the printed vibrant colors of four Khat letters of Alif, Mim, Ain and Ya, presented through their formal and casual outfit for women displayed an extraordinary touch that was soft and elegant.
The team took home RM30, 000.00 as the grand prize winner in the fashion category.
Meanwhile, Zaimi bin Zulkafli, who also a final year student in the Faculty of Art and Design, UiTM and his teammate Rozana Junita binti Abd Rahman received the second prize of RM10, 000.00 with their ‘Kakak Tua Hitam' themed collection design of the fashion category.
They created a wonderful collection of mixed color of royal blue and black selection produced a line of attractive toned fabric design inspired by the feather of a black parrot which were seen from the resulting strains on the fabric.
The batik fashion grand finale was held in the Grand Ballroom of Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre, on the 1st of December, 2013, and graced by Her Majesty Raja Permaisuri Agong Tuanku Hajah Aminah, The Queen of Malaysia.
The Piala Seri Endon, is an annual batik design competition event, a platform to discover and support the Malaysia’s Batik making talent as well as to recognize and encourage the young and old alike in experimenting, researching and developing innovative ways to work with batik.
Initiated by the late Tun Endon Mahmood, the wife of former prime minister Tun Abdullah Ahmad Badawi, the competition is a part of the Malaysia Batik – Crafted for the World movement, which was started by Tun Seri Endon in 2003.
It is now in its eleventh year, held in conjunction with Visit Malaysia Year 2014, organized by the Yayasan Budi Penyayang Malaysia.
The prize money of the competition amounting to RM150, 000.00 comprises of three categories of fashion, soft-furnishing and handicraft.
The first prize is an attractive RM30, 000.00, and the second and third place winners received RM10, 000.00 and RM5, 000.00 respectively for all three categories.
Five consolation prizes of RM1, 000.00 were also provided for each category.
There were 93 entries in total for the competition this year.
Also present at the finale were the Yayasan Budi Penyayang Malaysia Chief Executive Officer Datuk Leela Mohd Ali, the Foundation Chairman Nori Abdullah and her husband, the Youth and Sports Minister, Khairy Jamaluddin.
- Dr Dewi Tajuddin: From Bank Teller To Senior Lecturer
Universiti Teknologi MARA (UiTM) would like to congratulate our Young Lecturers Scheme (TPM) PhD scholar, Dr Dewi Tajuddin, for obtaining her PhD from Universiti Malaysia Sabah (UMS) in Human Resource Management. She received her PhD scroll from Tuan Yang Terutama (TYT) Yang Di Pertua Sabah during the UMS 15th Convocation, held on 23 November, 2013.
Dr Dewi started her career as a bank teller with BSN Kota Kinabalu after completing her SPM in 1993. She enrolled off-campus at Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM) as a first degree student in 2000. She then studied EMBA at UiTM Sabah in 2005 and obtained her masters degree in 2007.
In late 2009, after working for about 16 years with BSN, she resigned to pursue her PhD degree at UMS. She was offered with the TPM PhD scholarship by Faculty of Business Management, UiTM. She was the only PhD recipient from the School of Business and Economics, UMS that received a certificate of Anugerah Aspirasi Pasca-siswazah UMS on 26 November 2013 for successfully completing her PhD between 3-4 years. Currently, Dr Dewi Tajuddin is a Human Resource senior lecturer at UiTM Sabah.

Pejabat Teknologi Maklumat (InfoTech) sedang melaksanakan Kajian Kepuasan Pelanggan dalam usaha untuk meningkatkan mutuperkhidmatan talian bantuan teknikal kami.
Kajian ini adalah meliputi responden di seluruh kampus universiti bertujuan untuk mendapat maklumbalas mengenai mutu perkhidmatan talian bantuan teknikal di InfoTech (03-5544 2203).

- Siti Aisah UiTM Graduate is ACCA Malaysia’s Best Graduand, Seventh in the World
SHAH ALAM, 16 Nov. - Universiti Teknologi MARA (UiTM) celebrated another sterling performance by one of its graduate, Siti Aisah Kamarulzaman, 21, who emerged as the best graduand of the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA) in Malaysia and the seventh best in the world, for the June 2013 examination.
Siti Aisah, a student from Faculty of Accountancy, was the seventh best in the world out of 6,000 candidates, who sat for the examination, and the best out of 724 ACCA graduands in this country.
Siti Aisah also inherited the success of her brother, Khalid, 22, who was the best graduand in Malaysia in the same examination last year.
She said the experience of her father, Kamarulzaman Udin, 51, as a night market trader, and the advice from her mother, Sa’adah Rahmat, 52, a teacher, had inspired her a lot in working hard and focus to achieve the best success in study and life.
“I’m thankful for this achievement, and I thank my parents and lecturers who has given me much support and inspiration throughout my studies. They are my strength and inspiration for this most meaningful success,” said Siti Aisah.
Siti Aisah has been exceptionally outstanding in her achievement during the Certified Accounting Technician (CAT) Professional examinations which she has completed in June 2011.
Due to her potentials, the Binder Dijker Otte (BDO), the fifth largest audit firm from the United States of America, has offered to sponsor her ACCA study upon completion of her last paper, and she was immediately employed by the firm.
Meanwhile, Siti Aisah is also the graduand who received her professional degree at the 79th UiTM Convocation, held on 16 November 2013, together with 80 others ACCA graduands. She was conferred the Vice-Chancellor Award.
Universiti Teknologi MARA (UiTM) is the only public higher education institution that offers full-time professional accounting studies, with the 'Platinum Status' from ACCA.
- UiTM Students Top Deloitte Tax Challenge 2013
PETALING JAYA, 11 Nov - After a month of poring through the Malaysian tax system, gruelling case presentations and heated debates, the students from Universiti Teknologi MARA (UiTM) emerged as the champions of Deloitte Tax Challenge 2013 for the team category.
The sixth season of the annual competition culminated in last Friday’s grand finale and gala event, which saw the winner of the team received RM8,000 along with a full-time position offer upon graduation with Deloitte, the world’s leading professional services network.
Adib Ahmad Zabidi, the leader of Team Pirate Tax, felt elated that his team managed to beat 114 teams to win this year’s Deloitte Tax Challenge.
“This is a wonderful surprise for us and we would like to thank our lecturers for giving us the support and the knowledge required to ace the challenge,” he said.
Adib said to perform their presentation skills, the Deloitte Tax Challenge really taught him and his team the importance of teamwork. The challenge saw them to be supported on each other’s best abilities to impress the panel of judges.
The Deloitte Tax Challenge has benefitted 11,000 students since they started the programme in 2008. This year, they drew close to 2,000 students from 24 universities across Malaysia. As a top firm in international tax practices, it is part of their commitment to develop and nurture talents to further strengthen the firm’s tax practice.
The Deloitte hopes to continuously expose talents within the student community. Through this initiative alone, they have seen many participants pursuing the tax profession upon graduation, and Deloitte Malaysia is proud to be among their employer of choice.
This programme aimed to promote tax profession as a rewarding career option and equip students with real-world business scenarios, is supported by the Universiti Teknologi MARA (UiTM), Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA) and BFM 89.9.
- UiTM signs MoU with Six Germany Universities
SHAH ALAM, 9 Nov - Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) has been signed between Universiti Teknologi MARA (UiTM) through INTEC Education College with six Universities of Applied Sciences (Hochschule) in Germany, namely, Hochschule Ravensburg-Weingarten, Hochschule Reutlingen, Hochschule fur Angewandte Wissenschaften-Fachhochschule Rosenhiem, Technische Hochschule Nurnberg Georg Simon Ohm, Hochschule Hannover and Hochschule Osnabruck.
This MoU is hoped to strengthen, promote and develop international and research cooperation between the parties in terms of promoting institutional exchanges between faculty and staff by practicing in academic research activities.
The other areas of cooperation are to accept undergraduate and graduate students of the institution for a period of study, to organize symposium, conferences, short courses and meetings on research related issues and to assure placements of students from A-Level German Engineering Programme of INTEC Education College at the six universities.
At the same event, the MoU was also signed between INTEC Education College and Institute for International Communication in Dusseldorf and Berlin. It marks a new approach for Malaysian students to master their German Language skills for academic purpose in Germany.
- Istiadat Konvokesyen UiTM ke-79
Seramai 29,297 graduan dari seluruh sistem Universiti Teknologi MARA (UiTM) menerima ijazah masing-masing pada Istiadat Konvokesyen UiTM ke-79. Pada konvokesyen kali ini, sebanyak 17 sidang berlangsung di kampus induk Shah Alam bermula 9 hingga 19 November 2013, bertempat di Dewan Agung Tuanku Canselor (DATC).
UiTM juga meraikan para graduan di tujuh buah kampus autonomi, masing-masing membabitkan empat sidang di Seri Iskandar, Perak (10-11 Nov), lapan sidang di Arau, Perlis (12-14 Nov), tiga sidang di Samarahan, Sarawak (12-13 Nov), enam sidang di Dungun, Terengganu (16-18 Nov), lima sidang di Lendu, Melaka (12-14 Nov), empat sidang di Jengka, Pahang (18-19 Nov) dan empat sidang di Permatang Pauh, Pulau Pinang (16-17 Nov).
Pada sidang pertama, para graduan dan hadirin turut menyaksikan penyampaian Anugerah Ijazah Kehormat Doktor Undang-undang kepada Ketua Menteri Sarawak, YAB Pehin Sri Haji Abdul Taib Mahmud, dan disusuli penyampaian Anugerah Graduan Terbaik UiTM 2013 kepada 13 orang graduan mengikut kategori masing-masing.
Semua anugerah tersebut telah disampaikan oleh Duli Yang Maha Mulia, Seri Paduka Baginda Yang Di-Pertuan Agong, Sultan Abdul Halim Muadzam Shah. Seri Paduka Baginda Raja Permaisuri Agong turut bercemar duli ke istiadat konvokesyen kali ini.

- UiTM CELEBRATES 56TH MERDEKA DAY IN PATRIOTIC FERVOUR
Universiti Teknologi MARA (UiTM) celebrated the 56th Merdeka Day and the 50th Malaysia Day full of patriotic fervour. It was held on 11 September, at the Dewan Seri Budiman, UiTM Shah Alam.
The event has organized by the Faculty of Art and Design (FSSR) in cooperation with the Corporate Communications Department.
The event concept is “Semarak Merdeka” featuring the element of light and sound effects which successfully attracted the audience.
The Vice Chancellor, YBhg Tan Sri Prof Ir Dr Sahol Hamid Abu Bakar presented a special performance - recitation of a poem by En Rahman Amin, a lecturer in FSSR, titled “Semarak Merdeka”.
In addition, the poetry recital included a special guest from Deklamator Malaysia (DEKMAL), Lin Haslinaz Hanapi, who recited the poem “Ceritera Pohon Bangsa” by Ahmad Shukri Abdullah.
The audience also enjoyed a poetry recital by En Rahman Amin and Puan Hema Zulaikha, who succeeded in taking them on nostalgic tour of 1957.
This event closed with a “Semarak Merdeka” dance performance by FSSR students and the rendition of the Jalur Gemilang song by everyone present.
Universiti Teknologi MARA (UiTM) created history when three of its lecturers were awarded with the Anugerah Akademik Negara (AAN) 2011/2012, for their respective categories on 20 August. The Deputy Prime Minister who is also the Education Minister, YAB Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin presented the awards to the winners at Marriott Hotel, Putrajaya.
The Dean, Faculty of Film, Theatre and Animation, Associate Professor Abdul Razak bin Haji Mohaideen was the recipient for the Arts and Creativity Award, under the category of Performing Arts. Among the academics, he is a pioneer in the production of Malay films, and has produced 34 films. He applied his knowledge in film technology to add value to teaching and learning.
The Deputy Dean (Research and Industrial Linkages), Faculty of Art and Design, Prof Dr Muliyadi bin Mahamood was the recipient for the Arts and Creativity Award, under the category of Creative Writing. He has been given recognition for his commitment in advancing knowledge in animation in academia. His expertise in animation is sought after by society. His research has been published in the form of books, essays, journals and magazines, as a general reference acknowledged by the National Library of Malaysia.
Another recipient is a lecturer from the Department of Textile Design, Faculty of Art and Design, who is based in the Machang campus of UiTM Kelantan. Mr Junaidi bin Awang is awarded the Arts and Creativity Award under the category of Visual Arts. He specializes in batik and textile design. This is the second time that Mr Junaidi received the award under this category. He won the same award in 2010.
Congratulations to Associate Professor Abdul Razak Mohaideen, Professor Dr Muliyadi Mahamood and Mr Junaidi Awang for their success in bringing the good name of UiTM to the national and international level. It is hoped that their achievements will inspire other academics in the university to put UiTM on a pedestal through the Anugerah Akademik Negara in the future.
- Spreading the Spirit of Patriotism through Jalur Gemilang
The Vice Chancellor of Universiti Teknologi MARA (UiTM), YBhg Tan Sri Dato’ Sri Prof Ir Dr Sahol Hamid Abu Bakar officiated the Majlis Kibarkan Jalur Gemilang Peringkat UiTM, on 30 August 2013.
The event organized by the Faculty of Art and Design in cooperation with the Corporate Communications Department, was held at Canseleri Tuanku Syed Sirajuddin, UiTM, Shah Alam.
The Vice Chancellor also distributed the Jalur Gemilang to members of the motorcycle convoy, symbolic of the start of Merdeka Day celebrations at UiTM level.
Meanwhile, celebrations of the 56th Merdeka Day in UiTM will be held on 11 September, at the Dewan Seri Budiman. UiTM will also be celebrating the 50th Malaysia Day at the same event.
The UiTM populace is most welcome to the event as a show of patriotism to our beloved country.
